Pressley - We Will Not Sell Clarke Unless it's Good For The Club

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that wantaway striker Leon Clarke will not be sold unless the deal is good for the club.

“Ultimately, he’s a hugely important player for us and I can assure our supporters that we will not sell the player unless the deal is correct for this football club,” Steven Pressley said to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner.

“Leon knows how important he is to this club and because of that I am disappointed because it puts us in a difficult predicament, particularly given Callum Wilson’s injury.

“If there is no deal agreed between the clubs this week then, absolutely, Leon Clarke has to continue to play for this club and give his maximum. He will be part of the squad for the weekend and moving forward.

“We pay him and he has to act in a really professional manner and show our supporters that while he’s here he is still committed to this football club. He also has to show his fellow players that while he’s here he’s still committed to the group, and he has to do that by the way he trains and performs.

“While he’s here he’s a big player for us and he has got a duty and a responsibility to act in a professional manner, and I would expect nothing less.

“I’ve not spoken to Leon over the last 24 hours but I will definitely be leading up to the Preston game.

“He’s made a stance and expressed his desire to leave but the one thing he has to understand is that he’s signed a contract at this football club and he must honour that contract, which is to give his maximum every day in training and every time on the field of play.”
