Pressley - Never A Penalty

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that Ryan Haynes tackle on Jermaine McGlashan which led to a penalty that was put away by former Coventry City player Cody McDonald was never a penalty.

Intitally, the referee seemed ok with the 87th minute tackle but with the home crowd in the Rainham End demanding a spot kick and the assistant in front on the small stand, Mr Linington eventually gave in and awarded a penalty which was converted to see City go 2-1 down.

City manager Steven Pressley was livid with the decision and was on the pitch after the match and in the referees room to discuss the decision and said to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole: “I’ve been to the referee’s room to speak to them because it was never a penalty,” said Pressley. “It was a great last-ditch tackle – you can see the ball change direction; When a linesman makes those kind of calls he’s got to be 100-per-cent sure and I can assure him he’s got it wrong.

“We came here last year and were on the wrong end of several bad decisions and it was the same again today, but the disappointing thing for me is that we find ourselves in that situation.”
