Coventry City striker Leon Best has been praised by Republic Of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni for his performance in Ireland's 1-1 draw with Nigeria.

Speaking about Best who made his debut and played the whole game, Trapattoni said: "I look at the performance and the personalities of the new players like Sean St Ledger and Leon Best and I'm pleased.

"Leon did well as he was up against a tough Nigeria defence and he was particularly strong in the air.

"He showed he can be a strong target man and this is what we want because it allows Robbie [Keane] to have the space to play between the midfield and the striker. I'm pleased with him."

Best is now hoping to make the squad which will take on Bulgaria in a World Cup Qualifier in Sofia next Saturday.
