Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has told the Coventry Telegraph that there is the potential to bring players in ahead of the weekend and the opening game of the League One season against Wigan Athletic.

Mowbray told Andy Turner, who understands that one player wanted by City is a winger: “There’s potential to bring people in before the weekend.

"There is a permanent deal that is potentially quite close. We’ve met the player and the agent and had a long chat and they’ve gone away to discuss the proposals.

"It’s an ongoing thing – he’s an unattached player who is available to sign

“We have got one or two players who are a very fine margin away from coming to join us but their clubs and their agents have got other issues that they have to resolve rather than me.

“I can’t tell you specifics but it might be that their club wants the player to sign a new contract before he goes out on loan.

"The agent is saying he’s going to sign a new contract but the fine detail of the thing needs addressing before the club let him go, so we have to wait and hopefully that deal will get done and the player will be allowed out on loan.”
