Witnesses are being asked to come forward after a Coventry City supporter and article provider to this site was head-butted after Saturday's game with Bristol Rovers.

According to the Bristol Post, the alleged assault is said to have been carried out by a man in a Bristol Rovers jacket on a 24-year-old Coventry City fan just outside the main entrance to the Ricoh Arena by the taxi queue.

The perpetrator, who was around 6ft tall and accompanied by a friend, was wearing a black jacket which had a Rovers logo on it.

The incident happened on Judds Lane, near the road leading to Rowleys Green Lane and several taxis were waiting in the area at the time.

Other fans leaving the ground had apparently been accosted by these two and the traffic attendants who were working around the traffic lights near the big roundabout outside the ground had spotted the taller man."

A statement from Bristol Rovers reads: "We do not want individuals like this associated with Bristol Rovers Football Club and we would ask if any of our fans witnessed the incident in question, or knows the name of either of those involved, to help trace the individuals involved."

Coventry City are currently looking through CCTV footage at the Ricoh Arena and are urging anyone who saw the incident to come forward with information.

Witnesses can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or West Midlands Police on 101 and ask for that police service or contact Bristol Rovers on 0117 909 6648 option 9.
