In a game, which was probably taken in by Coventry City representatives, with the Sky Blues game at London Road only twelve days away, Tommy Rowe gave The Posh the lead in the 26th minute and Brett Assombalonga scored a second in the 65th minute.
Former Sky Blues Clinton Morrison and Freddie Sears played for Colchester.
