Coventry City Former Players Association committee members Frank Pritchard and Mike Young were present at Vale Park on 21st September 2013 to watch Port Vale (currently managed by CCFPA member Micky Adams) defeat the Sky Blues (managed by CCFPA member Steven Pressley) in a very closely contested match 3-2.

Frank had previously signed up Micky at one of his trips to Sixfield to watch the excellent Sky Blues’ youthful team in preparation for the game. This time, Frank was able to meet Mick’s deputy Robert Page in the Vale dressing room after the game and get him to put pen to paper

Starting out with Watford in 1993 he became a key figure at Vicarage Road totting up well over 200 league appearances before moving to Bramall Lane, Sheffield permanently after a loan spell there in 2001 (with another 100+ league outings for the Blades).  After a brief sojourn at Cardiff City, then Sky Blues manager Micky Adams signed Robert in February 2005.  Robert had gained 4 Welsh under 23 Caps and, between 1996 and 2006, 41 full caps for his country (captaining them in 2005).

Rob was a forceful central defender and eventual captain with the Sky Blues, making 70 first team league appearances (and scoring a lone goal) in his three seasons with CCFC before moving on to Huddersfield Town in January 2008 and then, after a brief stay, on to Chesterfield where he finished his playing career in March 2011 having clocked up not far off 500 league appearances in his eighteen year professional career.

In July 2011 Robert once more linked up with Micky when Adams first offered him a youth coaching role at Port Vale and promoted him to first team coach in May 2012. Rob will take temporary charge of Port Vale whilst Micky is ‘hors de combat’ during his recovery from a hip operation over the next few weeks. CCFPA wishes Micky well and a full recovery and welcomes Robert to the Association.
