Over Thirty Players For Legends Day

Last updated : 21 September 2012 By CCFPA

Plans are almost finalised for the Coventry City Former Players Association Legends Day: A  Tribute to Ernie Machin reunion tomorrow surrounding the Sky Blues’ home game against Carlisle United on 22nd September 2012.

There is still time for Associate Members and other fans to join the CCFPA committee and our 30+ guests- all Bantams and Sky Blues Former Player (FPs) and club officials for a pre match meal in the CCFC’s 1883 restaurant on Saturday.  To book a £59+VAT package (£44+VAT for season ticket holders) please ring the Club on 0844 873 6543 or emailhospitality@ccfc.co.uk .

The CCFC stalwarts we expect to come  span two centuries and seven decades of Coventry City history from the nineteen ‘forties’ to the 21st century ‘noughties’.  It is pleasing to see so many FPs present who experienced with Ernie Machin the excitement of CCFC’s  ’Sky Blue Revolution’  as the club rose through the ranks from third to top tier in the space of four seasons in the mid 1960s and then cemented a place at the pinnacle of English football for 34 seasons.  Hopefully our returning FPs will be seen as an inspiration to the current squad of Sky Blues!  Dave Clements who is specially flying in from the States for the occasion was last here for Legends Day 2009.  Most of the FPs have been to our one of our grand reunions before but for David Thompson this is his first Legends Day. Watch out for news of late additions to the Sky Blue roster and further surprises on the Day.

All our FPs will be invited pitch-side to take part in the traditional half time welcome by the crowd and after the game to take to the stage of Lady G’s in the G-Casino with m/c Billy Bell (vice chair of the Association) to celebrate the Day and mingle with fans. No doubt the day will be completed by a rousing rendition of the Sky Blue anthem!
