City won the second leg 3-1 at Highfield Road but went out of the competition on aggregate.
The last time City played a league game at Tranmere, it was for a third division match on April 8th 1961. City lost 2-0.
City's one and only win at Tranmere was a 2-1 victory on December 17th 1938.
