FIFA want PL league reduction
Coventry City may find themselves battling for only one promotion spot if Sepp Blatter has his way. The FIFA top boy wants all top divisions in member countries to have a maximum of eighteen teams for the start of the 2007/2008 season, which he claims will free up more dates for international fixtures and avoid a backlog.

This means that only one team from the Championship could be promoted instead of the current three sides. Both the FA Premier League and Scottish Premier Leagues have objected to this with the FA PL claiming that Mr Blatter does not have the right to do this and it is up to the twenty teams in the PL to decide upon their numbers.
