On This Day In Sky Blues History

On this day in 1985, Coventry City beat the league champions Everton 4-1 to stay in the top flight of English football and send Norwich City down.

The Sky Blues had been poor all season but won at Stoke City and then beaten Luton Town at Highfield Road, leaving them need a win against Everton, who had been crowned league winners the week before.

In a game which sparked rumours of match fixing with rumours of a pre-game deal done in a pub in Coventry run by a former City player, or perhaps Everton, who only fielded seven of the players who had won the title in their previous game, prefered a trip to Coventry than a trek to Norwich City, believe what you want, the Sky Blues won 4-1.
