Coventry Sphinx went out of the Birmingham Senior Cup with a 1-0 defeat at Banbury.

As autumn starts as does the Birmingham Senior Cup and Coventry Sphinx started their campaign with a trip to the Spencer Stadium in Banbury.

Luke Hopkins' side which was changed from the side that drew at Gornal on Saturday, were soon on the attack with Kiam Galdings firing at Bedwell from long range which was quickly followed by Abrahams sending one over at the other end.

Sphinx had a corner and Dainty headed wide before The Puritans won a corner in the 20th minute.

A half of tough tackles failed to produce a goal but Banbury took the lead three minutes after the restart when the seemingly looking offside Menezes played the ball across to Kyal McNulty to score from 12 yards out.

Luke Hopkins made a double change and Sphinx were so close to a goal when Murdoch's free kick from 20 yards bounced off Bedwell's right hand post.

In the 82nd minute, Sphinx had a great chance when Bedwell smothered and Tom Dyke fired wide from 20 yards and in stoppage time, Murdoch fired wide but Sphinx went out.
