Coventry City midfielder Jim O'Brien has apologised for a spat with a fan after the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Worcester City.

O'Brien told the Coventry Telegraph reporters at this morning's press conference: "I want to clear things up. I was walking off the pitch and happened to turn and apologetically applause the fans.

"A teenager caught my eye who was giving me a gensure sure I didn't like. I went over and told him not to call me that again.

"The story has grown legs. People are saying I grabbed the guy and put my finger on my throat which is nonsense.

"People can say what they like about performance as I was rank raw and I can only say sorry for the performance as we let everyone down.

"But with someone being personal to myself it's a different. I don't have a problem with any fans or the young lad involved.

"I'll apologise to any young families around there but I don't think I spoke out of turn and I was only repeating what he said to me before.

"As far as I'm concerned the story has grown legs but I had no problems with the young lad."
