Nuneaton Chairman Keen To Avoid Ricoh Arena Situation

Nuneaton Town Chairman Ian Neale is keen to ensure that his club avoid a Ricoh Arena situation if the club loses control of its Liberty Way ground.

The club's Liberty Way stadium is available as part of assets in the Ian Neale Construction Group which is being liquidated and Mr Neale is keen to avoid what is happening to Coventry City if the ground is sold to an outside buyer in order to pay off the company's creditors.

Mr Neale told the Coventry Telegraph:  “The last thing we want is another Ricoh situation here. No-one is going to invest in stadium infrastructure that they don’t have ownership or control of.

“It has the potential to be a Football League club because of the size of the town, but it’s important the stadium is developed as the team is.

"There’s only one grade more to get it up to Football League level. “It has got potential for that but it will need significant investment.

“I’m not saying I’m going to do that on my own, but if I go out to people for investment they won’t want to do anything to the stadium if they don’t own it.

“It could be owned by the football club or it could be owned by the same person who owns the football club.

“There are pros and cons to each. “But if it is owned by someone else completely – it’s a bit like living in a rented house, you don’t feel able to make significant investments.”
