Not Happy About Any Of it - Hopkins

Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins felt that realistically he expected his side to be getting three points from their trip to Stourport Swifts instead of being on the end of a 2-1 defeat.

Hopkins told the Sphinx website: “Saturday was a tough fixture, we reshuffled the pack and welcomed back Ash Wilks up top and Kyle Baxter in the middle of the park, both whom have been massive players for us this season.

”The game started well and we were dictating the tempo and the majority of play. it was a mix up in the back line that allowed their striker to clip into an open net after Carl O’Neill had previously came out and cleared. it was a mistake and the only one made for the first 25 minutes. The goal shocked us  as we seemed in control of the game.

“The pitch started to cut up badly and it invited players to be diving in and some heavy tackles from either team, but we got back into the game with a nice piece of football, Adam Bilic at the heart of the move allowing Rickie Cutting to cross and Ash Wilks with a good finish.

”Now back in the game and to be honest, we would have settled for a point away from home. However, there was a little something missing in the final third which didn’t make the difference and win us the game.

”Their winner came from our free kick, it was a poor ball into the box and they broke and scored and to be honest our boys spent longer moaning about the poor ball instead of digging in and getting back to prevent them scoring. “I’m not happy about any of it, to be honest, to concede so late and lose a point, but realistically I expect us to be going places like that and getting 3 points.
