No Hoofball For Us - Thorn

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has said that his side will not be resorting to lumping it up upfield in a bid to win matches.

Thorn is prepared to stick to his side passing the ball rather than any route one stuff and told the CT's Alan Poole:“We gifted them a goal start,” said Thorn. “That happens sometimes but what really disappointed me was they way we played in the first half – going long, crashing the ball about.

“We never got to grips with it and I don’t know why.

"Perhaps it was because Sammy got caught out for the first goal, which is a real collector’s item, but that’s not we’re about.

"We can’t play that way, revert to just smashing it upfield.

“This club has gone down that route and it doesn’t work.

"And it’s not going to happen again; we’ll play out way out of trouble and if we’re going to fail we’ll fail doing the right things.

“But I don’t think we will fail if we play like we did in the second half.

"Once we sorted things out at half-time we got plenty of possession, got into some great positions and played some really good stuff.

“We got down the sides and put lots of ball into their box and I don’t think anybody could have grumbled if something had dropped for us and we had gone away with a point. ”

“It was like chalk and cheese but we can’t keep doing that.

"We had a great following again today and the fans have seen us play well for half a match; but we’ve got to start doing it for ninety minutes, not just forty five.”
