Former Coventry City player and manager Roland Nilsson was in Dublin last week as part of a UEFA Coaching Symposium. The Swede who was popular at Highfield Road spoke about the difficulty in making the switch from player to manager.

He took over as City boss following the sacking of Gordon Strachan in September 2001. Given the task of getting City back into the Premiership at the first attempt, the Sky Blues started well with an eleven game unbeaten run but faded away and Nilsson paid by being sacked with one game of the season left.

"It was an experience for me," said Nilsson who is now coach of GAIS Gotenberg. "I decided to go back to Sweden, relax a bit and try to get the right education to go back again. "I became a teacher, for a year-and-a-half, before I took on another job. I'm still learning, because you never stop learning in football."
