Gary McAllister has been given a new role in Scottish football. The former City manager and player who managed one decent season out of four for the Sky Blues has been appointed as the Clydesdale Bank's roving ambassador during their sponsorship of the Scottish Premier League. PL.

The news comes after it was revealed that the Scot was offered the manager's job at Motherwell but turned it down saying:"I had informal talks with John Boyle. "He runs a tight ship there and learned a lesson from being in administration but he's looking to push on. "However, there were a few things which held me back. I tend to rely on my gut feeling and it just didn't feel right.

"It was a hard decision because I'd been at Fir Park from the age of eight until I was 19. I painted all the seats in the main stand - I don't think they have been painted again since! "There have been a few offers in England I've also turned down but I'd like to get back into management and I'm very aware I can't keep saying 'No'."

McAllister's new role will see him attending matches in Scotland on a regular basis.
