Former Coventry City and Coventry Sphinx midfielder Kevin Thornton has been offered a new contract at Northampton Town.

Thornton joined the Cobblers in January 2010, after his contract at Coventry City was terminated following news that he was banned for drink driving for 22 months by city magistrates after being convicted of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving without a full licence, was over the legal alcohol limit and with no insurance.

Thornton played for Coventry Sphinx and Nuneaton Town before getting a deal at Sixfields.

Speaking to the Northampton Chronicle, Thornton said: “When you are young things happen. It’s not like I have got myself in trouble, it’s just been silly little things like going out and that.

“But when you look at the bigger picture, you realise you are getting older, and you can’t throw it all away because it is every lad’s dream to play football.”
