My Letter To The Football League

Dear Amanda

I am sure that you are up to your eyeballs in protesting City fans. And so you should be.

This has been a farce from day one. SISU has completely taken the FL for a ride and however much Greg Clarke wrings his hands it has got its way completely.

So we have a club split in two, without accounts, with the accepted new owners also without accounts, undertaken in a manner to ensure that debts are written off in a devious manner. We have a team deliberately moved out of its hinterland when there is a more than reasonable offer on the table. We have comprehensive opposition from fans, Council, MPs, MEPs etc.

And yet you can’t do anything about it.

And where does the 10 point deduction come from? Surely this just sends the message to other spivs that they can do exactly the same and get away with it.

Where in all of this have you drawn a line in the sand and said, “no more”.

This is a desperately sad day for Coventry City, its fans, Coventry as a city but every single person in this country that supports a football club or has an interest in football.

I am dreadfully sorry to say this, but I think that this demonstrates that the FL is not a fit and proper organisation to run football in the face of the sharks that circle the game.

I am too old and gnarled to cry over this but I bet others are. The club is destroyed. And you have allowed it to happen.

We would have accepted Otium being rejected and liquidation. We would have accepted expulsion from the League. We probably would have accepted 20 point penalty to banjax SISU.

10 points isn’t even a slap on the wrists.

When I wrote previously that you should just issue a press release to say that SISU can do whatever it likes and you’ll let, I honestly didn’t think that you would….

So let’s celebrate 125 years of the FL and all it holds dear… no let’s not as I can’t see anything coming out of this that I would want to celebrate in the future.

Just a sad, sad day.

God bless,
