Murphy - A Game We Should Have Won

Jacob Murphy has said that Coventry City should have won their FA Cup First Round tie against Northampton Town.

The Sky Blues went down to a 2-1 defeat which left many of the City support in a crowd of 9,124 fuming after paying  good money and making an effort to get tickets and then get to the game.

Speaking about the defeat, Murphy who scored City's goal said to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: "It was brought to our attention before the game and we were all hoping not to repeat it but it wasn’t to be.

“That message came from everyone, the manager and the players who were here last year.

“We’re bitterly disappointed. It was a game we should have won.

“We knew their strengths were getting the ball in the box and scoring off headers and both their goals came from crosses. We didn’t defend well in the box and that’s where it cost us.

“Our tails were up after getting the equaliser and were unlucky not to take the lead.

“But then they got ahead again shortly after and then it was an uphill task against them when they defended the rest of the game. They defended the last 45 minutes.”

Asked if he thought Northampton wanted it more than Coventry, he said: “It’s tough to say. On the day we had a lot more of the ball but they stuck to their plan and all credit to them.”
