Coventry MP Jim Cunningham has asked for the issues affecting Coventry City FC and football governance to be raised in the House Of Commons.

The MP wanted MP's to debate City's many, varied and complex problems but was told by by Leader of The House William Hague that it was not a debate for the House Of Commons.

Jim Cunningham told the Coventry Telegraph's Simon Gilbert:  “I very much appreciate the infuriation of fans of the football club. I am glad that I’ve raised this issue once again.

“It is important to keep raising it with the government so they don’t forget that it is still ongoing and unresolved.

“I am disappointed with the lack of action the government is taking, as this is something the people of Coventry and I feel very strongly about.

“The current laws surrounding football governance are clearly inadequate. The government said back in 2012 that they intend to legislate if the Football League does not sort itself out and prevent the sort of shambles we’ve seen in Coventry.

“They haven’t and we need to pressure the government to take action.

“I will do everything I can to make sure that this is debated in Parliament at the earliest opportunity.”
