Mowbray: We Need To Be Realistic About Strikers

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that there is a need to be realistic about strikers.

Mowbray told James Rodger of the Coventry Telegraph: "Yes, we all want a 20-goal a season striker, but you have to be realistic.

"Invariably, we want our own striker ideally but clubs don't have transient work forces. We can't bring in and let go 14 or 15 players a season.

"You need to put faith in the players you've got, but we are looking to add and it's very unlikely that a 20-goal a season man has just been released.

"Realistically, we are looking at all avenues and the solution may be a player at a higher club who is being kept out of the team by internationals.

"The issue is that clubs are taking their youngsters on tours with them because their first choice players are at competitions like the Copa America, which has just finished.

"I've tried very hard in this window to attract players who are at the top end of League One, or maybe even Championship quality, but you miss targets due to a whole range of factors - some clubs may offer bigger salaries - and the calibre of player we are targeting will help the players."
