Mowbray: We Are Waiting On Players

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he is waiting on players to decide if they want to join the Sky Blues.

Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “We have got plenty of targets and I am sitting here thinking that over the next few weeks we will be fine because so-and-so has signed and so-and-so has signed and then the loan we want will come our way.

“The squad will get there whether that’s before the season starts or at the end of August when the window closes but the team will be strong and ready and competitive, I’m sure, by then.

“I always say, let’s not panic in June and July and try to fill your squad up because there will be some really good players that become available when teams start sorting their squads out and deciding what they do with them.

“It’s a similar situation to last summer and we have a very young team on the training ground that we are dealing with at the moment but it will become more experienced over the next few weeks, more ready to compete in League One.

“We were waiting for a lot of the loan players last summer and they came as the season closed in, and it will be the same again this time.

“And yet I have stressed that we need to try to nail down some loan signings. It’s dangerous to build the foundation on loan signings but we bring in players from the Premier League who we hope will help our starting line-up.

“We are talking to clubs about them but a lot want to take them away to America or the Far East or wherever to play in their tournaments as part of their squads, which is fine.

“I have been meeting one or two players over the last few days with the potential of signing them and there are various reasons, some of it geographical because it’s not easy to move a family with the offer of a one or two year contract, so those are the decisions footballers have to make sometimes.

“We’re waiting for a few people and there are still quite a few people to come in.”
