Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he is still interested in Dominic Samuel.
Speaking about Samuel, who is expected to face the Sky Blues tomorrow for Gillingham, Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner that he could be interested in Samuel in January if Adam Armstrong returns to Newcastle: “It’s a question of whether Dominic enjoys it where he is, whether there is a plan for Reading with him at Gillingham.
“You can’t just bring players in because they become available. If I had brought Samuel in now what would I do with Armstrong? I’ve got Joe Cole who can play the No.10; can Samuel play there? Maybe.
“But if Armstrong was to go back maybe Samuel is an option because he’s proved he can score goals in this league for us. What did he get – six in 13 last season?
“So all that would be down to Reading, down to Dominic. But the timing just wasn’t right. The budget is quite tight and we can’t just keep bringing players in. We have only got so much to spend and we needed money to bring in a defender, which we have done with Ben Turner.
“There are loads of players I would like to go and get and that are available.
“It’s like a kid in a sweet shop and you can’t have them all. We have made some decisions, we took Armstrong, Kent and Murphy. I could name three more we could have taken but you have to pick the ones you want and nurture them and make them play the way you want them to play and get on with it; believe in them.
“Somewhere along the line if we needed a striker Dominic would be a good option for any club in this league. Gillingham have got that opportunity, he scored on his debut and good luck to him.”
