Mowbray Learns That Young Players Cannot Play A 46 Game Season

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he has learnt with Adam Armstrong that young players cannot play 46 games a season.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, the City boss said: “It was very difficult to leave our top scorer out but in hindsight, sitting here today, Armstrong didn’t score for 12 games of whatever it was.

“He was an 18-year-old just turning 19 at that time so maybe it was a time to sit him on the bench and let him watch for a bit and bring him on for quarter of an hour at the end, so maybe that’s a lesson for me to learn with the loan system as we move forward; to know that young players can’t sustain 46 games a season and you shouldn’t ask them to do that.”
