Tony Mowbray has said that he is glad to have got the deal done to become the new permanent manager of Coventry City.

Mowbray completed a two year deal and told the Coventry Telegraph:“I’m delighted to finally get it done.

“It’s taken a little bit longer than we expected but there was some detail that needed addressing and even today we have been working on that and preparing for the players coming back as well.

“Things have needed to be altered and changes made and they’ve agreed to that so I am happy enough to put pen to paper. I enjoyed the last two months of the season and now, over the summer, we can try to build a team that’s going to be competitive.

“Hopefully we’ll start to bring in some players soon.

We haven’t got money to bring in any superstar players but we will look for the right blend and balance of footballer that can make us really competitive and enable the supporters to look forward to a season at the right end of the table.

“It’s a low starting point because we have a lot of players out of contract and there will be players for whom the time is right to move on, so it’s about trying to build a new team to take the club forward.

“And hopefully the fans will see some consistency over the next few years and we can move forward and find ourselves at the right end of the league because we need to get out of League One, of course, and I want the fans to enjoy the journey.

“It’s not for me to tell the fans to put their hands in their pockets, it’s up to me to put a team out that’s competitive and good enough for the fans to want to come and support their club.If we show the right way to do it that will entice the fans back into the stadium.”

Asked about the length of the contract, Mowbray clearly still needs to be convinced that the club will be as good as their word and that he can deliver what’s required.

“We have to prove we can put out a team that can win football matches.

“We’ll have a really good look at ourselves over the next two years and see if it’s a good marriage and one in which we can move the club forwards.”
