Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has explained Danny Swanson;s departure from the club.
The midfielder cancelled his contract and left the club on Tuesday and speaking about him to the Coventry Telegraph's Aidan McCartney, Mowbray said: "I hope there's a mutual respect there. There's no doubt he's a talented player but there were issues around getting in our team and was he going to get in-front of O'Brien, Lameiras and Maddison when he's fit and the answer was probably not.
"We'd have had to get him fitter and in the end he wanted to play football. He just wants to play football and I couldn't guarantee that.
"Ultimately we can utilise his salary elsewhere in the team and Danny understands that perfectly.
"I am sure if we were in a different place with more money and a bigger squad I'd like to have him to come off the bench."
