Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has dropped his interest in giving trials to two unnamed youngsters.

The club had initially intended to take the two players to Portsmouth today for the pre-season friendly match, but Mowbray has changed his mind, saying, “We had two lined up but for whatever reason they are not going to come now.

"Sometimes the way it works with players who are under 24 that there's the potential to have to pay compensation to previous clubs and we are not in a position to pay clubs money for people they don't want anymore, or are letting go.

“They were young players we were going to give opportunities to but we’ve decided not to go down that route because if we go down that route and they do particularly well and then we find out they cost a few hundred thousand pounds in compensation it’s no good for us.”
