Mowbray - We've Had A Chance To Prepare

Last updated : 18 August 2015 By CNS Staff

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that the difference between pre-season and the league matches is that you can prepare for league matches.

City failed to win a game in pre-season, taking three draws and two defeats but have won their opening two League One fixtures and speaking about the difference, Tony Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “I’d have to say the difference is that we had chance to prepare for Wigan and Millwall. “You don’t prepare for pre-season games, you don’t know anything about the opposition, you don’t know how they play.

“The first time we turned up against Oxford I didn’t know they were going to play a high pressing game but when we play teams now in competition I have got video, I watch and analyse the opposition and put game plans together – how we are we going to play, when will be sit off, how we play in behind, how we keep the ball.

“It’s miles different and to be honest pre-season is just about getting players fit.

“I thought the signs were good at Luton and Portsmouth when I thought we could keep the ball and just needed to look for a cutting edge, which is what I was saying after the games.

“We were looking for someone to be incisive and want to run in behind teams when we have got the ball.

“I knew we had some quality and Adam Armstrong coming was integral because we’d been through pre-season with a lot of young boys and without a centre-forward.

"We got Ruben Lameiras integrated in and there was a big change to the team.”
