Mowbray - We Do Lack Physicality

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that his side does lack physicality.

Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: "I do sit and watch us and think we do lack physicality against lots of teams in this league, particularly if we’re going to play a front line of Armstrong, Murphy and Maddison or Armstrong, Murphy, Cole and Maddison.

“You need both types because we have dropped points like we did against Scunthorpe with two set-plays.

"Sometimes when you’re in front and want to see a game out you need to put Darius Henderson on for his defensive qualities from set-plays as much as his ability to score a late winner as he almost did on Sunday.

“Andy Rose is another, a 6ft 2 tall athletic footballer who can stick his head on the ball at set-pieces but also has good energy, good legs and he’ll only get stronger and better for us with the more minutes he plays.

“There are always positives, whether they be individual or collective. I get disappointed because with all due respect to Port Vale I expect to go there with this team and this club and get a result.

"The game didn’t quite pan out in the way I would have hoped and yet we dug in and got a point.

“Obviously we’re disappointed to lose a late goal and drop two points when we were looking to rev the engine up again really for the last third of the season.

“And yet they had more of the ball than I would have wanted, they had more chances than I would have wanted them to have.

“It was a great strike so all credit to the boy but as a manager you are always looking how better we could have stopped it.

"And yet we defended all those balls into the box from set plays with people putting their bodies on the line and blocking shots and stuff I would want from my defenders and my team. But I don’t want to have to do that every week.

“There have been times this year when teams have hardly had a shot at our goal or been anywhere near it, so it’s a balance.”
