Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that Arron Martin is an improving player.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole, Mowbray said about Martin: “I can see development from the player that I inherited at the end of last season.
“He’s an improving footballer – there’s still a way to go but the important thing is that he knows that because he’s very consicencious.
“He does the job properly; he always wants to see his clips from all the games and he likes to analyse the strikers he’s going to be playing against in the next game. He still has to learn how to use his body like Reda Johnson and Ben Turner because they can move strikers out of the way instead of just pushing them and conceding free-kicks.
“To win headers these days you don’t have to tower above people. Once you’ve worked out the flight of the ball, the highest you can head it, you don’t let the centre-forward keep moving you back so he can bring it down on his chest.
“Aaron’s 6ft 4ins and although he’s not built like Reda or Ben you don’t have to be body bulked to be strong.
“I was skinny as a lamb top half but if you stand your ground and use your quads to plant yourself, you can make sure that people can’t move you back and you’re not having to go over the top of them.
“It’s those sort of things he’s got to learn, how to impose himself on the centre-forward, so I ask our analysts to show him best practice, which might be John Terry or might be Ben Turner.
“Ben is very good at that; he’s clever and he’s strong - if a centre-forward backs into Ben they feel as if they’re backing into a wall. That’s why he’s played Premier League football and if Aaron watches and learns from him he can continue his journey to become a top player.”
