Mowbray - It Wasn't Good Enough

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he was disappointed and frustrated at his side's 2-0 loss at Barnsley.

“We’re disappointed and frustrated,” said Mowbray to the Coventry Telegraph. “That didn’t look like the Coventry City side we’ve seen this season.

“They’ve been magnificent but we need to get back to the standards they’ve been showing because I don’t think many reached those levels.

"We still love them because they’ve done some fantastic things for us but I just thought there were too many below par tonight.

“We knew that Barnsley are very, very powerful on setpieces and we didn’t deal with that. I thought their two centre-half were colossal tonight – they headed everything, they were fast and mobile, read the game well.

“That’s been the basis of their success in recent months while we’ve got two young boys playing at centre-half.

“I’ve said all along with the Reda Johnson scenario and then Ben Turner, men invariably get the job done.

"I think our boys did all right – it wasn’t necessarily their fault the two set piece goals.

"But when it’s wet and windy in Barnsley on a Tuesday night you need people who turn up and bring their armour with them and we were lacking a little bit in that.

“I don’t think we did enough from the first whistle to the last and I’ve told them that.

"We need to keep a balance, keep their confidence up, keep them believing we can achieve what we’re aiming for yet sometimes footballers need telling that it wasn’t good enough. And tonight wasn’t good enough."
