Mowbray - Are Cov Going To Sell Maddison I Don't Think So

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he does not expect the Sky Blues to sell James Maddison.

Large numbers of Premier League scouts have been watching Maddison at U18's, U21's and first team matches this season and speaking about the player who scored City's winning goal at Crawley which kept them in League One and in existence if the rumours that SISU were to fold the club if they were relegated had any truth in them, Tony Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner:  “Yes, I think so. Every footballer has his price – there’s all the Raheem Sterling stuff going on at the minute, Man United sold Christiano Ronaldo and Tottenham sold Gareth Bale.

“Are Coventry going to sell James Maddison? I don’t think so.

“I think he’s a young boy who is just getting on the ladder of his football career. People obviously recognise talent – the phone has rung once or twice and the message has been pretty loud and clear really that we’re not interested in selling James.

“So, in my mind, let’s get the season rolling. We’re back on July 1 and let’s get him in his boots and get him part of our build up. Hopefully he’ll be part of our pre-season and will produce the goods to get in our team and then enjoy his football.

“I would hope young Maddison would burst through and make himself a regular first-team player. That’s down to him. We know he has talent and he has to find the consistency week in week out.

“Young footballers have to play and my message to all young players throughout my career is that you need a platform to show your talent,” he said.

“Why would you want to move somewhere where you are not going to play? Bigger clubs collects talent because they want as many assets at their training ground as they can get.

“What’s the point of training at a big club every day and never playing on a Saturday afternoon? For me, if you are talented enough everything that goes with professional football will come your way.

“Young Maddison at this moment, in my opinion, should get his head down and work hard and show the public of Coventry what a talent he is and bide his time. And hopefully he’ll help this club be successful.”
