Having been released by Norwich City last seaon,the former City winger who has also played for Lincoln, Newcastle, Millwall and Manchester City amongst others wants to try his luck in America.
"If Toronto truly wants to sign him they will be able to sign him," San Jose's John Doyle said. "It's out of my control." But San Jose would like to make a pitch.
"He's an attacking, flashy, skillful forward. "He's used to playing at a high level day in and day out."
