Mifsud Injury Scare

Michael Mifsud picked up a knock whilst playing for Malta against Turkey and has returned to Coventry for treatment in a bid to be fit to face Bristol City on Saturday.

The striker picked up his 50th cap against Turkey on Saturday and had been due to play some part in a friendly against Armenia tomorrow.

Said Malta national coach Dusan Fitzel: "He took a knock in the first-half and then gave away five to six balls. I was contemplating taking him off but I waited until half-time. He received more treatment from the doctor and he was better in the second half. "Michael would have been available for the friendly but I decided not to risk him. The Coventry coach (Iain Dowie) initially asked for Michael to be released from the friendly but I told him that my plan was to play him for 45 minutes.

"However, there's no point in calling on Mifsud if he's not fully fit. It's better if he continues to receive treatment in the hope that he will be fit to play for Coventry on Saturday. "We need Michael to be fit and playing more regularly for his club because that would also benefit the national team."

Mifsud has only started the League Cup game at Carlisle this season but has scored three times for the Sky Blues so far this season.
