McSheffrey Would Like To Be Captain

Coventry City midfielder Gary McSheffrey has said that he would like to be City's captain.

McSheffrey has skippered the side in some of the pre-season games including the 4-1 defeat to Wrexham on Tuesday and speaking to the CT's Andy Turner, he said: “It’s nice to have the armband but at the end of the day these are pre-season friendlies.

“The manager makes the decision but at the minute anyone could be captain because after a result like that no-one can be guaranteed a place in the team.

“If come the first game of the season I have got it then great, obviously I would like it. But it’s not important at the minute.

"What’s important is that we get our game right and we’re ready for the first few games of the season when we need to get off to a good start.

“We will roll our sleeves up for the weekend and then the remaining friendlies and make sure we are fit and mentally prepared for the first game.”
