Coventry City striker Gary McSheffrey injured his medial knee ligament when he tackled Pompey's Dave Kitson last Tuesday and had to be replaced. He was seen leaving Fratton Park with his knee in a brace and now faces an agonising wait to see if he will be fit enough to play again this season.

McSheffrey doesn't think the injury is serious as he played on for a further five to ten minutes after the tackle that caused the injury.

He explained, “I went in for a block tackle with Dave Kitson and tweaked my medial ligament a little bit so I will just see how it is over the next couple of days. It didn’t feel great when I did it but I played on for about five or ten minutes."

"It happened before I scored and I then made the decision to go off. It doesn’t feel like a really bad one and I just came off as a precaution more than anything else. I will see how it is over the next 24-48 hours and hopefully it will be fine.”

The 28 year old Coventry born and bred striker has revelled in the new found freedom he has been given by caretaker manager Andy Thorn and admits he would be devastated if he has to miss the last five games of the season.

He said, “I will be devastated if it is worse than I think, but it is just one of those things and part and parcel of the job. It’s still a bit stiff and it’s a bit early to say how bad it is but touch wood, hopefully it will be all right.”
