Coventry City midfielder Gary McSheffrey has said he prefers having points in the bag to games in hand.

Due to being able to get their matches on, the Sky Blues have a number of games on some of the teams around them but McSheffrey told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “We’re happy that we’re knocking on the door and we just want to keep climbing the table “We are chasing and hungry.

“We have got points on the board and those teams with games in hand have got to win them, which is never easy. I had it at Birmingham where we had games in hand after a few had been called off and it’s not great because it puts pressure on.

“We are disappointed we dropped points against Shrewsbury and Carlisle because they are games we should have won, but we’ve backed that up with two wins.

“Now we’ve got two difficult games but we’ll be ready for them and hopefully go there with a view of winning – if we can do that then we’ll be in a great position.

“We have got a big game up at Preston and if we go up there and get a result you never know what could happen. We just have to look after our own games and let other people worry – look over their shoulders at us.

“But we mustn’t get ahead of ourselves because if you do that then things can start going wrong.”
