McSheffrey Opens Account

Gary McSheffrey scored his first two goals for Birmingham City since his £2.5m plus add-ones move from Coventry City tonight. McSheffrey's goals came in extra time of Birmingham's 4-1 League Cup win over Wrexham at St Andrews.

There was the usual array of shocks in the League Cup with League One Crewe beating Premiership Wigan Athletic 2-0 and Port Vale beating QPR 3-2.
Julian Joachim scored twice for Darlington who drew 3-3 at Reading. The Royals won 4-2 on penalties. Watford and Hull also needed penalties to beat lower league sides.

Trevor Benjamin scored for Peterbrough United in a 2-1 defeat by Everton whilst Hereford United who beat the Sky Blues in the last round were beaten 3-1 at home by Leicester City.

Locally, Leamington went out of their second cup competition in four days. Having lost 1-0 at Rocester in the FA Cup on Saturday, The Brakes were beaten 3-1 at home by Banbury United in the Birmingham Senior Cup. James Husband put Jason Cadden's side ahead but two penalties converted by Adrian Fuller and a goal from Andy Baird sent Banbury into the next round.

In the Midland Combination Premier Division, Coventry Copsewood won 2-0 at Southam United
