McSheffrey Joins Frickley Athletic

Cov kid and former Coventry City player Gary McSheffrey has signed for Frickley Athletic.

The 36 year old, who made 247 appearances for the Sky Blues after coming through the club's Academy and Reserves, was with Eastleigh and Grimsby Town last season.

He has joined Frickley who play in the Eastern Division of the Northern Premier League and speaking about his move, McSheffrey, who is coaching at Doncaster Rovers and goes into their squad for their FA Cup tie tomorrow against Maltby Main, said: “I'm happy to be part of what the club is trying to achieve & I'm looking forward to playing some games.

"I've had a bit of time off and it makes you realise how much you miss playing.

"Having spoken to Spen, I can see that the club is run in a professional manner.

"Playing for the club also enables me to carry on my role with Doncaster Rovers youth set up"

Former Coventry City youngster George Thomas scored both goals in a 2-1 win for Wales' Under-21 side this evening in their UEFA U21 Championship Qualifier.
