McGinnity Plans Ballot

Coventry City Chairman Mike McGinnity is reported to be planning a ballot amongst City supporters at the end of the season on whether he should resign or stay on as the man in charge of Coventry City.

Brought to the club by Bryan Richardson, the former West Brom director made his money with his PEL PLC seating company. He took over as Chairman in February 2002 following a boardroom coup.

Under his charge, the club have cheated extinction on a number of occasions and have reduced debts to around the £23m mark by transfering the financial burden of the new arena at Foleshill to Coventry City Council. Further debt reducing has seen both the training ground at Ryton and City's Highfield Road stadium sold.

A lover of the high-life,McGinnity has been no stranger to controversy during his business and City career, with acts including the appointing of former FA officials in a bid to steer the Taylor report in to the 1989 Hillsbrough Disaster, the selling of Highfield Road to a building company now taken over by George Wimpey and the signing of a "no disclosure" agreement with Bryan Richardson.

With Jojar Dhinsa chomping at the bit to take over, having a vote on the future of the current Chairman is a brave move and one that may end his tenure at Coventry City if the feelings displayed by City supporters at QPR on Tuesday continue.
