McDonald chasing starting place

Coventry City striker Cody McDonald is pushing hard to get a starting place in the side that travels to Leeds for tonights game.

City manager Andy Thorn has said McDonald is "champing at the bit" to regain his place, but whether he can dislodge the veteran striker Clive Platt, who had an excellent game in the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday is doubtful.

McDonald, who joined Coventry from Norwich last month, has been struggling to reach full fitness and finds himself in catch 22 situation whereby he needs games to recapture his form, but until he can recapture that form, he is less likely to get a start.

Speaking to the CT, the City boss Andy Thorn said: "He (Platt) did well on Saturday after a long time coming back and it was nice to get a few more senior players on the pitch.

“He and Lukas played together against Middlesbrough away last year and did well, but Saturday was only the second time they have played together since we have been in charge and it went well, but Cody McDonald is champing at the bit to come back so there is a pressure for places and everyone knows they have to do well.”
