Maybe The Ricoh Arena Should Look At Safe Standing

Maybe the Ricoh Arena should be joining the list of venues which has a safe standing area.

With the Ricoh Arena now being a multi-sport stadium whether Coventry City supporters or those from West London like it or not, perhaps it is time that Arena Coventry Limited and those in charge allowed a safe standing area.

At the moment, rail seats, which Celtic are to install for possibly the start of the 2015/2016 and Bristol City already have in a section at Ashton Gate with plans to extend this to 3.800 if rail seating becomes permitted in the Championship, are only permitted to be used for rugby matches but are becoming more and more used abroad.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell saidThe introduction of rail seating at Celtic Park represents an investment in spectator safety. Across football globally, the reality is that some supporters are choosing to stand at matches.

"This is something we must accept and manage and also understand the positive effect which these areas have on atmosphere at matches”.

The rules in League One do permit supporters to stand at matches as those who stood at Yeovil, Crawley, Fleetwood etc will testify and maybe having a safe standing area with rail seats, might just attract more Coventry City supporters and Wasps supporters to matches at the Ricoh Arena.
