Makems Top,Leamington Champions and Sphinx Win Derby

With City drawing at Derby, Sunderland scored two spectacular goals to win 2-1 at Southampton and top the table for the first time this season with four games to go.

Birmingham could have gone second but went down to a 1-0 defeat at Barnsley. City supporting Danny Nardiello scored the only goal of the game which kicked off on the final whistle. He told reporters after: 'I'm a Coventry fan but a lot of my mates are Birmingham supporters and were here today. 'It's my dad Donato's 50th birthday so it's been a great day all round." Fourth are West Brom who won 2-1 at Norwich.

So who is going down? Luton Town occupy the bottom spot after a 3-2 defeat at QPR for whom Paul Furlong. Southend won 3-2 at Preston who face City on Saturday but are second bottom. Cov Kid Graham Alexander scored for the Lillywhites who are sixth in the table. Leeds dropped back into the bottom three with a 2-1 defeat at Colchester United. Barnsley are fourth from bottom with Leicester who were beaten 3-0 at Plymouth now five points off the drop zone. Coventry City are 15th.

Scunthorpe top League One but are starting to get the jitters. After drawing on Saturday, they were beaten 2-1 at Northampton thanks to a late goal. Bristol City are second despite losing at Gillingham with Notts Forest third. Fourth are Blackpool who won 2-0 at Huddersfield with Claus Jorgensen on the mark. Craig Reid got another sixteen minutes of league football for Cheltenham whilst Richard Shaw was booked for the second consecutive game in Millwall's 2-1 win at Doncaster.

In League Two, Julian Joachim scored for Darlington at home to Lincoln.
Locally, Nuneaton Borough beat Hucknall 2-1 whilst Rugby Town beat Kings Lynn 1-0 but Bedworth lost 2-1 at home to Solihull Borough.

It's congratulations to Leamington FC who have wrapped up the Midland Football Alliance title with a 3-0 home win against Racing Club Warwick. Ben Mackey scored a stunning goal for City supporting Jason Cadden's side who have amassed 96 points from their 37 matches. Atherstone drew 2-2 at Barwell but Stratford had a great result winning 6-2 at Studley.

Coventry Sphinx are on the verge of getting promoted to the Midland Alliance after a 3-1 local derby victory at Coventry Copsewood. In a hard fought contest in front of a good crowd at Allard Way, skipper Terry Ward put Paul Charnley's side ahead in the 12th minute when he stabbed in.

Copsewood equalised through a Shaun McCullum 25th minute strike before Adam Knibbs headed home in the 33rd minute to restore Sphinx's advantage. With twenty two minutes left, Craig Martin banged home from close range to keep Sphinx six points clear of Highgate United.

Elsewhere, Southam beat Alveston 3-1, Leamington Hibernian beat Littleton 1-0,Stockingford lost 3-2 at home to Northfield, Coventry Sphinx Reserves beat Earlswood 3-2 with PJ Gordon netting twice and Warwick Town lost 5-2 at Perrywood.
