Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that James Maddison's injury is progressing but he will be ready to play again when he is ready.

Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner about how Maddison's fractured ankle was responding to treatment: “It’s good news.

“He’s a young guy who, without getting over confident, is healing well. He’s not a 30-odd year old who has had lots of knocks and it’s going to take a while; he’s a young guy whose knitting together very quickly.

“I asked the same question of the physio as to whether we should be knocking off a month or two from that initial timescale.

“I think they tend to err on the side of caution and, basically, they’ve said he’ll be ready when he’s ready.

“His body will tell him when he’s ready but it’s good to see that although he’s not skipping about yet, he’s not wearing the protective boot any more and he is doing work on the grass; stepping over hurdles and things like that, putting weight on it and loading it, which is good.

“My question to the physio was, if he’s doing that already what’s he going to be doing for the next three months? But, bottom line is in football, you have to err on the side of caution and make sure he’s ready when he does come back.

“In my mind he was due to be back around Christmas time but it will be when he’s ready.”
