Coventry City Council Leader Ann Lucas has told Simon Gilbert of the Coventry Telegraph that the decision to sell the Ricoh Arena to Wasps not Coventry City's owners SISU was the right one.

Lucas said: "We can’t win. But those who said it will never be paid back must eat their words. We feel we have got a remarkably good deal out of it.

“You can’t have it both ways,Coventry taxpayers have not lost out because of the deal we have done with Wasps.

“That was one of the red lines, the deal breakers, and it hasn’t happened. We have made money, we have not lost money. It’s a good bit of business done. And ask the businesses around the Ricoh what they think about the deal that has been done.

“Now, we have someone running a ten year old facility who has money needed to spend on it.

“We would have struggled to spend the money needed. People would have asked why are we spending money on the Arena when lives are at risk due to funding cuts.”
