It took a last gasp super strike for WSL side Bristol Academy to defeat WPL National Division side Coventry City Ladies 3-2 in a friendly at Sphinx Drive.
Courtney Sweetman-Kirk who had a fine game was involved in the sixth minute when she created space to get in a shot which Chamberlin in the Bristol goal spilled before it was cleared.
The WSL side were quick on the counter-attacks and in the 12th minute, a quick move saw the ball come in from the left for Nicky Watts to head home from seven yards to put Bristol ahead.
Helen Dermody had a volley pushed over before the Sky Blues were back on level terms in the 35th minute when Sweetman-Kirk scored with a sweetly hit 25 yarder.
Black clouds were coming over Sphinx Drive and as the rain came down, Sweetman-Kirk hit the bar at one end, only for Bristol to break down the other and for Heatherson to get in a shot from eight yards which Sue Wood had no chance with.
The rain, thunder and lightening overhead forced a ten minute delay to the start of the second half but when the team returned, the action started straight away with Sweetman-Kirk firing at Chamberlink and Bristol hitting the bar.
Paul Cudby mades changes before Simpkins had a shot saved and Jade Formaston fired wide.
Then in the 78th minute, City drew level for a second time when Courtney Sweetman-Kirk broke and was able to beat the keeper with a low finish.
The game appeared to be heading for a draw after Danni Saulter had a shot saved but in the last minute, Bristol won a corner and the ball was met with a cracking curler which was good enough to win any game and gave Bristol a 3-2 victory.
City Ladies face Birmingham City Ladies next Sunday in their final pre-season game in a match to be played at Stratford Town FC.
