NEW Coventry City Ladies chairman Bill Newnes has his eyes set on the Women’s Super League after taking over from Dave Singleton this week.

Newnes, who served as the Premier League club’s commercial manager for several years, took over as chairman following the departure of Singleton at the end of last month.

He will begin his new role immediately and is already targeting new sponsorship to help move the club forward to the next level.

Singleton’s hard work has not gone unnoticed as he has been made Life President in recognition for guiding the ladies into the top flight of women’s football.

“David will be a very difficult act to follow,” he said. “I was very flattered to be asked to stand as Chairman but also concerned that Singleton was stepping down.

“He has been the building block of what the club has achieved over the last ten years.

“One of my objectives will be to develop more opportunities for the local community to be involved with the club

“The club is reliant on it sponsors and I would like to thank Peter Moore from Archer Bassett for his continued support.

“But we need new sponsorship to help the club to maintain its current position of being in the women’s national league and our plans for looking at the super league in the future.”

“There is a lot to complete before the end of this season and preparations for the club to be ready for the start of next season.
