Pre-season friendly

Cassidy Coventry City Ladies lost 2-0 to Premiership side Blackburn Rovers in their third pre-season friendly on Sunday. The opposition played a weakened side made up mainly of reserves. Their new signing, England international Amanda Barr, was the main omission from the team sheet.

Being a pre-season match and a late kick-off due to travel problems, the game was split into two thirds of thirty minutes and one third of twenty minutes.

Blackburn's first goal was scored by Mel Cook after thirty seven minutes when she headed in from a corner. Jenna Carroll got the second with a looping shot over goalkeeper Kerry Williamson from the right wing on sixty four minutes after the Coventry defenders failed to track back.

Kelly Henson was picked out for praise by Coventry manager Stuart Wilson for her display in midfield. Kayleigh Poole was also a threat, with her runs being rewarded with several fouls. Natasha Lynch was impressive at centre back making some vital tackles.

Kirsty Robson had an excellent debut for Coventry on the right wing. She was constantly running and trying to make space to give the team more options going forward.

Last week, Cassidy Sky Blues manager Stuart Wilson said that the team needed a proper test, and this week he said he got it: “We had a real test against very good side and we needed to know if we could handle that, and to be fair, we did. We dealt with it very well”
